The Executive Office of Transportation and Construction (EOTC) is responsible for coordination and planning of state transportation and related public construction policies. EOTC chairs the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), a federally-mandated administrative body acting under direction of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) (MGLA c 40B, s 24). Under EOTC direction, MAPC central transportation planning staff serve as consultants for MPO constituent members (Massachusetts Aeronautics Commission, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), MBTA Advisory Board, Massachusetts Highway Dept., Massachusetts Port Authority, and Massachusetts Turnpike Authority). Series is created to provide planning staff comprehensive consultative services, which relate to transportation in the Boston metropolitan area, to MPO members and to additional entities at MPO direction.
